Known as the “Atlantic Pearl", the island offers breathtaking scenery with its incredible vegetation, exuberant flowers, magnificent mountainous views and gorgeous beaches.

Madeira's temperate climate benefits from a year round Spring that never becomes too hot nor too cold. Temperatures ranging from an average of 25°C in the Summer, and 17° C during Winter, both inhabitants and visitors find it to be just about perfect!

Benefiting from the influence of the Gulf Stream sea temperatures range from 18° C in the winter, and 22° C during the Summer.

Approximately 740 km2 (286 sq. miles) for a small county Madeira has plenty to offer. Because of its variety of endemic species of fauna and flora the island is also known as “the floating garden of the Atlantic”
Naturalists, botanists, zoologists, scuba divers, walkers, photographers, and just about anyone who loves nature find it to be a scenery sanctuary. Truly, the island is blessed with a unique landscape.

Rejuvenating Walks

You can choose from one of the several Levadas' walks to enjoy a variety of sub tropical plants, venture into the dramatic landscape of the rocky Ponta de S. Lourenço one of the last, nearly untouched places in Europe, climb to the unforgettable views of Pico Ruivo, the highest peak on the island... and more. Madeira is internationally sought as a walking haven and you’ll have no shortage of options.

Culture

You will find several museums, churches, historical buildings and pretty little villages such as the typical Santana and, depending on the dates of your retreat, colourful traditional festivities.

Local cuisin

Due to its wonderful climate Madeira offers a variety of locally grown vegetables and subtropical fruits. On a typical weekday Funchal’s bubbly Farmers Market attracts both locals and tourists to a combination of the freshest exotic fruits and vegetables, luxurious plants, and freshly caught fish.
Madeira’s gastronomy offers quality produce traditionally prepared in delicious regional specialities you won’t regret trying!

From walking, swimming, scuba diving, fishing, whale and dolphin watching, paragliding, or simply relaxing in one of its unusual pebbly and black sand beaches, you can truly enjoy a variety of activities and gorgeous sceneries.

Where you’ll stay

"The Estalagem Ponta Do Sol was not only stunningly beautiful, it was filled with extremely friendly, professional staff and very comfortable facilities."

Ann Gray

"Beautifully and graciously hosted, sun, sea and gorgeous food. Wonderful hotel"

Melinda Coss

The Estalagem is located in the 500 year old traditional village of Ponta do Sol in the southern coast of the Island. Roughly translated to Sunny Edge, Ponta do Sol owes its name to being the island’s location blessed with more hours of sun than any other.

Spectacularly set on the top of a cliff the Estalagem offers breathtaking views over the ocean.
Formerly a Quinta (old Farm), the hotel was restored into an elegant combination of simple, contemporary lines with the original character of the Quinta and its natural location.

I've been able to bring this back to my practice at home, even having a teacher notice my stability. I highly recommend taking a class, or many!"

Marisa Lelia
